Broadband Internet - Cable VS DSL:
A broadband connection gives you always-on, unmetered access at up to ten times the speed of a dial-up modem. There are two companies in town vying for your high-speed internet access business, Charter Communications and SBC. Charter Communications offers a high-speed broadband connection through the use of cable modem. SBC offers their high-speed connection via a DSL modem. SBC although late to the Eau Claire market has been a worthy adversary for Charter. SBC seems to be the most aggressive on pricing offering broadband service for little as $19.95mo for one year.
Which service is better depends on who you talk to. One RAM Technician lives by Regis High School and had only complaints about Charter and switched SBC's DSL. He has been very pleased with SBC's service. In Altoona another RAM Technician has had Charter high-speed cable modem service since the beginning and calls their service, "Rocket Ship Fast". Both SBC and Charter offer very good broadband service. Charter offers faster connection packages but you pay a lot more for that speed. SBC seems to be more aggressive on pricing. For the average home owner or small business looking for a fast connection on a budget SBC seems to be the one. If you want "Rocket Ship Fast" and are willing to pay for it, Charter is your provider. |
